Unexpectedly sold my old Atari

November 6th, 2009 at 08:38 pm

Was doing a little unpacking and came across my old Atari. We had it hooked up in college but I haven't played it in years. Why not put it on craigslist?

I check out craigslist to find someone posted early today looking for an Atari. Sent him an email and viola! Atari is gone and I'm a little richer. Awesome.

Who knew there would be a demand for that in this day and age?

lizajane, video games today don't have the appeal of the early games. They were simple but challenging. They didn't require a 1,000 page manual or a dozen websites with hints and tips. One joystick and one button and you knew all you needed to know. I haven't hooked up my Atari 2600 for a while but I do have one of those emulators that looks like an Atari joystick and plugs right into the TV and I fire that up periodically. There are also hundreds of free online games that match the old games quite well, sometimes almost exactly.

I love it when that happens! It was just meant to be.

I think we're going to get an Atari emulator and possibly an NES emulator. Then we can try to sell that system too!

Combat is too cool not to play.

It's amazing what you can sell... from Atari machines to even older games and toys. Some of them lead to a pretty penny on eBay and other sites! Some of them even sell for more now than they did new... although there's never any insurance that will be the case, it's nice when it does! I think disneysteve is right on the money - the games today aren't games... they are too involved and overly time-consuming, not to mention offensive in many cases.

Oh my goodness. You had an Atari 2600? (Or was it a higher version?)

Old version or new, just curious? Old version had a flat matte grille, but new version was slated and had a chrome surface.

Good grief, if I wasn't so hard up about money and clutter, I'd buy it from you! But you already sold it, so that's fine.
